A doctor at Prince Hamza Hospital in Amman was physically assaulted by a man on Thursday, May 16, 2019.

In a post on her Facebook account, the female surgeon Rawan Sami said that a patient has been referred to the Hospital after his health condition needed him to be moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

However, since it is only a 17-bed capacity ICU, doctor Rawan could not help in referring the patient to the ICU.

Daughter of the patient started abusing the doctor verbally, which called on doctor Rawan to call the code white, which is usually called in case of aggression in a hospital environment whether it was physically or even verbally.

After she had called the code white, a friend of the patient's family beat her on her face, causing her nosebleeds.

Doctor Rawan appealed to all the responsible authorities in Jordan, His Majesty King Abdullah II, Prime Minister Omar Razzaz, Minister of Health Saad Jaber, the Jordan Medical Association, Director of the Hospital, and all the medical staff to take the necessary legal actions against the aggressor, stressing that she had been exposed to physical and psychological harm.

Medical staff in Jordan have been under a rising threat of being attacked while on duty in recent years, a phenomenon which must be brought to an end.
