US President Donald Trump has officially signed on Monday, March 25, 2019, a decree recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights, which were seized from Syria in 1967.

Trump has stated that the decision breaks with long-standing U.S. policy and international consensus.

In turn, Russia told Washington, the northwest region of the United States (US), that recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights is a violation of the International Law.

In response, Syria has vowed to recover the area "through all available means", according to the BBC.

However, Benjamin Netanyahu who was by Trump's side as he signed the proclamation stressed that Israel "will never give it up."
