The Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC) decided to allow Jordanian airlines to use the Syrian airspace for the first time since 2012.

In a statement, CARC said national airline companies, wishing to operate via the Syrian airspace, are required to submit an assessment of air safety risks, in addition to using a specific route and cruising at a set altitude.

CARC also said it is still assessing the status of Syrian airports, namely the Damascus International Airport.

Syria's acting ambassador to Jordan, Ayman Alloush, welcomed the CARC decision and told Roya that “this decision is the biggest proof that Syria is safe”.

Alloush stressed that Jordan would not have taken this decision had it not been safe for its civilian aircraft.

He noted that the Syrian territories will be safe and liberated from terrorism soon.
