The General Amnesty Draft Law, which was expected to be sent to the lower house of Parliament in December 2018 and was earlier approved by the Jordanian Prime Minister, Omar Razzaz, will be passed by the Parliament on Thursday, January 17, 2019, Head of the legal committee, MP Abd Al Monem Odat stated in a press release.

Oudat added that the committee received many proposals from the members of the Parliament, which are currently under discussion, pointing out that the Committee is working on expanding the Draft Law within the criteria set initially.

A source told Roya that the draft law is expected to be put on the agenda next Sunday, January 20, 2019.

After that, the Draft Law will be passed to the Senate, who will in turn discuss the draft and finally submit it to His Majesty King Abdullah II to ratify; where after the new law will be published in the Official Gazette.

The Amnesty Draft Law aims at consolidating the concept of tolerance and amnesty, enhancing the concept of social security, alleviating the challenges and pressures facing citizens, and giving the convicted and the perpetrators an opportunity to correct their course and behavior.
