Syrian authorities seized millions of Syrian pounds that were attempted to be smuggled to the Kingdom by a Jordanian national through the Jaber border crossing on Monday, November 26, 2018, according to the Syrain daily Al-Watan.

The daily which quoted the head of the Syrian Customs Department noted that the money was hidden between goods and other objects found in the car’s boot.

During the primary interrogation, the suspect made controversial statements about why he was attempting to smuggle the cash to Jordan; at first he claimed that they are trade returns that he made while in Syria, but in another statement he claimed that they are money leftover from personal shopping.

The source was quoted saying that the money seized will be deposited into the Syrian Central Bank and the case will be referred to the judicial authorities.
Such cases are infrequent, the source noted, stressing on collaboration between the two sides in cases of suspected currency or narcotics smuggling, as both sides exchange information and lead mutual operations.
