An inspection team of the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) has managed to locate and seize an unlicensed lab located inside a commercial building in Shafa Badran area on Thursday, November 15, 2018.

In coordination with the Directorate of Public Security (PSD) of Eastern Amman Police Department, the lab was caught forging and manufacturing falsified pharmaceutical and food supplements that were advertised for sale through social media platforms as Italian-made supplements.

The seized quantities included 10000 ready-for-sale food supplements, in addition to 3,000 packaged capsules, 220 thousand empty capsule, 3000 spray bottles labeled as naturally-derived local anesthetics, 5000 plastic bottles, and thousands of different labels for supplements and other products.

Accordingly, machines and equipment found inside were also seized – as the place was sealed off until concerned authorities carry on with their legal proceedings.

Following the incident, JFDA thanked the efforts of PSD for their prompt response and action and their consistent cooperation that results in further protecting consumers and citizens.

JFDA also cautioned citizens to be aware of similar advertisements when it comes to purchasing unverified products as they might be harmful. The Administration also urged reporting any food, herbal or pharmaceutical products that are illegally sold at the whatsapp number 0795632000, the hotline 117114 or the national number 065008080 in addition to the online website jfda.jo and email of [email protected]
