During the International Olympic Committee (IOC) awards ceremony, former Jordanian Olympic champion, Samar Nassar, was granted the “Winner for Asia” title in the 3rd IOC Women and Sports Award, which took place in Buenos Aires, Argentine.

Nassar, who is a two-time Olympic swimmer (2000 and 2004), won the award for her efforts in enriching women’s role in sports, including establishing football programs for Syrian girls at the Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan.

A member of the Jordanian Olympic Committee (JOC), Nassar released a press statement after she received the award on Saturday, October 6, 2018, expressing her happiness and stressing her commitment to further serve sports, both locally and internationally.

"I am very proud of this award," Nassar said. "This is an achievement for Jordan, which is constantly keen to create a legacy in sport through its own children... I thank everyone for their support and I will strive to continue promoting the concept of sport."
