Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Monday that it bombed several "ground-to-ground" ballistic missiles into eastern Syria, towards the headquarters of the militants who carried out the Ahvaz attack, which targeted an Iranian military parade last month, killing 24 soldiers and injuring at least 60 civilians, AFP reported.

The IRGC did not disclose the identity of the militant group, but confirmed that the shelling killed and wounded a large number of its members.

Iranian rockets were launched from the western city of Kermanshah and crossed Iraqi airspace to reach its targets in the city of Abu Kamal in eastern Syria, which is held by forces loyal to the Syrian regime.

This is not the first time Iran has targeted Syria. Last year, ballistic missiles were fired into Syria after Daesh attacked the parliament and the shrine of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in Tehran.
