The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) held its monthly meeting on the Palestine / Israel conflict, during which UN members were briefed by Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Nickolay Mladenov, on the recent political, humanitarian and security developments in the region, Petra reported.

During the meeting, the Council went through the quarterly report on the implementation of resolution 2334 of December 23,2016, which is mainly interested in the Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

According to the 2334 resolution, the Council requests the Secretary-General of the UN, Antonio Guterres, to report quarterly on the implementation of the resolution, who was assigned by the former US President Barack Obama.

However, Guterres did not submit the report himself, but rather referred the task to Mladenov, due to pressures posed on him by Trump’s administration.
