A picture of an elderly binman in the city of Fuheis went viral on social media on Tuesday.

Jordanians were furious to see a man who can barely walk still working way past retirement age, and demanded that the government helps him out.

The empathetic social media users also questioned why the hard worker is not receiving a pension instead of having to work at such an old age and in such difficult working conditions.

The current retirement age for men in Jordan is 60, although members of the Financial and Economic Committee in the Parliament demanded earlier this year that the retirement age for men is raised to 63.

What most social media users might not have thought of though is the following: the binman might actually like his job, he might feel like he is still healthy enough to go to work every day, and he might not want to sit at home and do nothing.

A penny for your thoughts?
