A video of a young girl strapped to the back of a minivan in Turkey went viral this week.
Turkish authorities arrested the driver who tied his daughter to his vehicle as he drove down a long country lane.
Police tracked down the father by entering the details of his licence plate into their vehicle registration verification system.
The father told police officers that his 13-year-old daughter asked to sit on the rear bicycle carrier, adding that he unstrapped the teen after 300-400 meters of travelling on the road.
To make matters worse, the father-of-eight defended his actions by reassuring the police that the carrier can carry up to 150 kg.
Following the social media storm, the driver’s 22-year-old son told local media that the incident caused him and his family a lot of stress and made them “very sad.”
Authorities are currently taking the necessary steps to ensure the safety of the child.
