The Japanese government announced on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, that Japan will provide an emergency assistance to the UNRWA with an amount of $5.4 million, said the representative of Japan to the Palestinian Authority and Japanese-Palestinian Coordinator of Cultural and Media Affairs, Nizar Maarouf.

Marouf added that the aid will be used to provide food to the people in Gaza Strip and that it is likely to arrive this weekend.

This comes months after the US decided cutting UNRWA's funds by $550 million causing a major deficit in the Agency's budget.
