King meets with UN High Commissioner for Refugees

His Majesty King Abdullah II received United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi, in Al Husseiniya Palace on Monday, August 27, 2018.

The meeting addressed means of cooperation between both Jordan and UNHCR in providing services to refugees and meeting their needs.

His Majesty discussed the increased economic burdens that the Kingdom currently faces due to the Syrian-refugee situation which directly affects the efficiency of the Jordanian service sector, especially in education, health and infrastructure. The King stressed the importance of the international community to maximize efforts in this regard.

Grandi praised the great role of Jordan in providing humanitarian aid and relief services to refugees, stressing the importance of the Commission to continue coordination and cooperation with the Kingdom. Later he tweeted "Honoured to be received by His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan. We discussed the need to work on durable solutions for Syrian refugees and to ensure continued support for countries hosting them."

The meeting was attended by Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, and Adviser to His Majesty and Director of the Office of His Majesty, Manar Dabbas,
