Most of us purchase travel insurance when going abroad to protect us against trip cancellations, delays, lost or delayed baggage, and in case we needed medical attention.

Travel agents in Jordan are now obliged to provide medical insurance for anyone booking a holiday package with them, according to an official statement released by one of the country's state-run newspapers.

The statement said that travelers should be provided with a document proving that they will be financially covered abroad, should they need medical treatment, transporting to hospital or transporting back to Jordan/country of origin for non-Jordanians.

The insurance will also include covering the costs of transporting the body of the traveler, should they pass away while they're abroad, regardless of the cause of death.

Additionally, the medical insurance should be worth no less than JD 10,000. The insurance will cover dental treatments and surgery up to JD 250.

Don't forget to discuss this plan with your travel agent the next time you're booking a holiday.
