Abbas reaches Amman for talks with King Abdullah

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Amman on Tuesday, August 7, 2018. The visit is to be followed by talks with His Majesty King Abdullah II.

Upon arrival, Abbas was received by Palestinian Ambassador to Jordan, Atallah Khairi, who confirmed that a planned meeting with King Abdullah is happening within the coming two days, according to Anadolu Agency.

While the “theme” of the meeting is not announced yet, it is speculated that it will be revolving arounf the peace plan that was recently proposed by Washington, Anadolu Agency added.
The meeting is also to include discussions about the latest developments in the Palestinian scene, Wafa News Agency reported.

On Sunday, August 5, 2018, His Majesty King Abdullah chaired a Prime Ministry’s Cabinet meeting where he stressed on the Jordanian firm stand in supporting the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people.

Khairi told Wafa News that the King’s support for Palestine has been always clear. "The King confirms the Kingdom’s historically supports to the Palestinian issue, which does not change and does not accept change. This has put an end to all doubts,” Khairi added.

The Palestinian envoy also pointed out that Palestine and Jordan stand on the same ground, share, and abide by the same vision. The relation between the two countries and their leaderships has always been based on cooperation and consultation, he added.
