The Civil Status and Passports Department (CSPD) announced that starting Monday, August 6, 2018, Jordanian parents will no longer be able to add their children’s names to their passports.

Children who are planning on travelling alone or with their parents will now have to apply for an independent passport.

The CSPD said it had to reinforce the new rule after it was officially set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

All member countries of the ICAO must abide by this rule.

Many countries do not grant children visas if they are under their parents’ passport, which is part of the reason why ICAO has taken this decision.
