The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) and the Jordanian Ministry of Municipal Affairs have installed 11 new speed cameras in various locations in Amman city. So far, the cameras have been working in trial-mode since three weeks now. The official activation date is set to be on Wednesday, August 1, 2018.

Roya News interviewed Mohammad Al-Faouri from GAM, where he stressed that the locations of these cameras was chosen in cooperation with the Directorate of Public Security and was based on statistical reports of the total number of accidents (and theirseverity) in each area. Speed detection cameras were accordingly installed where the highest number of traffic violations usually occur - these locations included:

- Al Quds Street towards Ras Al-Ain area.
- Josoor Al-Ashra Street
- Eastern Madaba Street
- Al Rabieh intersection with Mecca Street
- Mecca Street intersection with King Abdul Aziz Street

Al-Faouri added that visible signs are installed at each of the camera-equipped intersections, in order to remind the drivers of the maximum speed allowed.
