A pedestrian bridge was hit by a heavy cargo truck so hard that it collapsed on top of it in Amman on Saturday, a security source has said.

Two other vehicles were under the bridge at the time of the incident.

The source said that a driver of Arab nationality was injured during the accident, but that his health condition is stable.

An investigation has been opened to look into accident, however, a source told Roya that the truck driver hit the footbridge because his vehicle exceeded the height limit allowed to pass under a pedestrian bridge.

The road leading up to Zarqa, where the bridge collapsed, has been partially closed until the rubble from the bridge collapse has been removed.
