Ahed Tamimi became an icon of the occupation-resistance since a video of her hitting and slapping an Israeli soldier went viral in December 2017.

The Palestinian teenager, who was brought into custody, detained, denied bail, denied public hearing in court, convicted and sentenced to eight months in March, still remains behind Israeli bars.

Her father, Bassem Tamimi, told Anadolu Agency that although the release date of his 17-year-old daughter was set to August 19, she is likely to come out of detention on Sunday, July 29.

Imprisonment terms in Israel are subject to reduction --under certain conditions-- as the Israeli Prison Authority has the power of shortening the serving time, which could be the case in Ahed’s situation.
