Jordan confirmed receiving 800 Syrian White Helmet workers (an on-ground first-aid civil defence group that operated during the Syrian conflict) on Sunday at the request of the United States and other European countries.

The plan of evacuation, transportation and entry to the Kingdom was executed in cooperation with the UN; which resulted in granting hundreds of the White Helmet group and their family members a temporary asylum in the Kingdom. Currently, the process of their transfer to the UK, Germany and Canada is being arranged.

In June, hundreds of thousands of Syrians were stranded near the currently-closed-border with Jordan, due to the fierce escalation of the Daraa conflict that forced them to flee their homes.

Since then, Jordan has been standing firm against letting more Syrian refugees into the country. However, spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Mohammed Al-Kayed, verified the reason behind the Government's recent change-of-mind as being "purely humanitarian."
