Health inspectors from the Madaba Public Health and Safety Committee shut down two bakeries during an inspection executed on Wednesday evening, after discovering rats and cockroaches roaming around on the premises.

Assistant Governor of Madaba and Head of its Inspection Committee said that both bakeries lacked the minimum health requirements. Flour-storage and kneading machines were infested with cockroaches and rats, he added.

The inspection campaign also led to closing down two local PlayStation shops (arcade gaming services), which were operating without a legal license.

Violation tickets were issued to the bakeries and shops, and the authorities in charge will be taking legal action against them.

A similar incident in Mafraq took place last week, where a routine inspection uncovered a local bakery filled with insects and expired materials.
