Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, asserted that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) played a prominent role in supporting Jordan in the sector of defense and urged that more countries shared the burden of hosting the over 1.3 million Syrian refugees in the Kingdom, during NATO’s 29th summit, held at Brussels on Thursday.

NATO allies from 29 countries in addition to 20 partner countries participated in the summit, in addition to representatives from the UN, the European Union, the World Bank and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

During the Ministerial Meeting, held upon the invitation by US and attended by Iraqi PM, Haider Abadi, of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh, Safadi stressed Jordan’s strategic partnership in combating terrorism.

The minister also reiterated that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, can only be solved through a two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

In the final communiqué of the summit the council agreed to provide additional support to Jordan, along with a package of assistance to the Kingdom and several Arab countries in the sectors of defense, cybersecurity, demining and border security.
