A police officer was assaulted while on official duty guarding the back door of Amman North Court on Monday, a security source disclosed a day after the incident.

According to the official statement the officer was approached by a man who wanted to meet one of the detainees who were in the building.

The officer declined to allow the man to enter, explaining that the back door was only used for the entry of inmates and that visitors should use the front entrance.

Whether there was a verbal confrontation between the police officer and the man is unclear, but according to the statement the man attacked the officer and subsequently went to a hospital claiming that he had been hit by the officer.

A man unassociated with either sides of the conflict was a witness to the incident and his statement was taken as part of the ongoing investigation.
