The Nasib Border Crossing between Jordan and Syria could be reopening by the end of the current year, the AKIpress news agency said on Monday.

The agency said that an agreement is underway between the two countries to reopen the crossing, adding that once it has been reopened, it will not be under the protection of the Syrian regime.

Sources have told the agency that Assad’s opposition factions, that form the Southern Front Forces, would not accept to see the crossing run by Assad’s security forces, according to Al Dorar news website.

According to the agreement that is expected to be signed between Jordan and Syria in the near future, the crossing will be run by civilian employees of the Syrian opposition and protected by the opposition’s police forces, reported the AKIpress news agency.

The crossing is currently controlled by four Free Syrian Army (FSA) factions: Falawaja Hawran, the Yarmouk Army, the Sunni Lions and Fawj Al-Madfaiah.

When Jordan closed the crossing in April 2015, the country's then-Interior Minister, Hussein Al-Majali, said that they had done so due to the “acts of violence on the Syrian side.”
