The Supreme National Authority of the Great Return March called for the participation of a million Palestinians in a march commemorating Jerusalem’s occupation in an attempt to revive International Jerusalem Day, Maan news agency reported on Tuesday.

Today, June 5, marks the 51st anniversary of the Naksa Day, or the day of the “setback,” which commemorates the displacement of thousands of Palestinians as a result of the 1967 Six-Day War Israel launched against Jordan, Syria and Egypt, and occupied the territories in the West Bank, the Golan Heights, Sinai, and the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian National and Islamic Forces (PNIF) also called for a widespread participation in all the occupied territories and organized sit-ins in front of the headquarters of international organizations and agencies in order to advocate for the end of the occupation and protest against the ongoing crimes committed by the state of Israel.

In the West Bank city of Ramallah, hundreds flocked at 12 noon in front of the United Nations headquarters as part of the commemoration.

The PNIF urged Palestinians to participate in protests and attempt to join Friday prayers in Al Aqsa Mosque during the culmination of the activities, which call for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Meanwhile Israeli media reported that Israel has increased security measures in anticipation of the Naksa anniversary with Israel Hayom newspaper writing that the Israeli army was on high alert near the Gaza Strip borders.
