Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi was sworn in for a second term as an Egyptian President in Cairo on Saturday.

According to government statistics Sisi won 97 percent of the votes in the March election, which registered 41 percent voter turnout.

“Egypt can fit us all with all our differences. Accepting others and creating common ground will be important for us in order to create political development,” he told MPs who gathered to witness his oath of office, The Guardian reported.

His second term inauguration comes days after many of his critics were arrested for voicing their descent against a fare hike in the Cairo metro.

Many Egyptian human rights groups denounced the election describing it as non-transparent as five opposition candidates were banned from running the election race. The only candidate who was allowed was a long term Sisi supporter.
