An Algerian court sentenced a blogger ten years in jail after charging him of giving private information to “foreign powers,” according to his lawyer.

An court in the eastern city of Béjaïa found Marzouq Twati,30, guilty of harming the national interest of Algeria, according to France Press.

The court dismissed charges related to inciting against the country over Facebook posts.

Twati was detained earlier in January after he called on his personal account for objecting against the governmental budget. He also posted an interview for himself with the spokesperson of the Israeli foreign Ministry.

His lawyer said that Twati was just practicing his right of freedom of expression, and that he will meet him on Sunday to discuss if they will appeal the ruling.
