Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas was sent to a hospital in the West Bank on Sunday for the third time in a week, doctors and officials confirmed, providing diverging narratives about his health.

Official Palestinian news agency WAFA said Abbas, 82, had a minor ear surgery on Tuesday, and was sent back to Istishari hospital in Ramallah late on Saturday, before he was rushed back there the following day for the third time.

Medical director of the hospital Dr. Saed Sarahneh said that Abbas entered the hospital “for medical tests after the surgery he had three days ago in his middle ear. All the tests are normal and his medical condition is reassuring,” Reuters reported.

Palestine Liberation Organization, which is run by Abbas, said on its official account on Twitter that senior negotiator Saeb Orikat had visited Abbas and witnessed his good health.

Palestinians showed their concern on social media about the health of their President, following the latest updates about his health. The president was elected after former president Yasser Arafat passed away in 2004.
