Ivanka Trump, daughter of the US president, and her husband, a Trump advisor, landed on Sunday at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport, one day before the opening of the American embassy in Jerusalem.

“With great joy, I am returning to Jerusalem. I am honored to join the distinguished delegation representing President Trump, his Administration, and the American people,” Ivanka wrote on her Instagram account.

The relocation of the embassy from Tel Aviv to the highly contested Jerusalem has sparked discontent throughout the world and has been opposed by many Arab, Muslim, and European countries.

More than 45 people were killed and more than seven thousand were injured in demonstrations near the Gaza borders during the Great Return March, which started on March 30 and is expected to continue until Tuesday.

The culmination of the march also protests against the embassy relocation and coincides with the anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba, or the Day of Catastrophe, that commemorates the more than 700,000 Palestinians that were expelled from their homeland in 1948. Mass demonstrations are expected in cities across the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and Jerusalem.
