Israel launched a series of air strikes on Iranian targets in Syria in response to an Iranian rocket attack on the occupied Golan Heights. The attack lasted for two hours.

The Iranian targets were “ Iranian weapons depots, logistics sites and intelligence centres,” according to the BBC.

Following the attack, Israel sounded warning sirens in the Golan Heights.

Spokesperson for the Israeli forces, Avichay Adraee, accused Iran of carrying out the attacks, saying that “20 Iranian rockets were monitored” by Israel, while describing the incident as a “dangerous Iranian attack.”

Meanwhile, Israel’s Defence Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, warned Iran on Thursday morning that "if it rains in Israel, it will pour in Iran.”

Iran, which supports President Bashar Al Assad and has sent troops to Syria, has not commented on the incident.

The attacks came at a sensitive time, as US President Donald Trump prepares to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem next week, and after cancelling on Tuesday the 2015 nuclear agreement former President Barack Obama had signed with Iran.
