The Jordanian government has withdrawn the nationality from 22 Fatah senior officials including Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, a senior Jordanian official confirmed to Roya on Wednesday.

The remarks came in response to an article released by the Arabic newspaper, Rai Alyoum (HYPERLINK), indicating that a while ago Jordan had implemented an earlier decision signed by former Jordanian Interior Minister, Salameh Hammad.

The decision was part of Jordan’s procedures to disengage from the West Bank which started in 1988, the source confirmed.

Jordanian National Liberation Movement which is linked to the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine has been a vocal proponent for the withdrawal of citizenship from Palestinian officials.

After the decision was put on hold for years, the ministry had resumed the process and also targeted former PM Ahmed Qurei and former Palestinian ambassador to Iraq- Azzam al-Ahmad .
