Jordan reaffirms importance of de-escalation zones in Syria

The spokesperson of Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ambassador Mohammad Al Kayed, stressed on Friday on the need to preserve the de-escalation zones in southwestern Syria in a step toward a country-wide cease-fire, reiterating Jordan’s support for a political solution and stating that the talks between Jordan, the US and Russia are a priority for the country, Petra news agency reported.

He pointed out that the three countries assure that the conflicting parties in Syria adhere to the ceasefire agreement through Amman Center for Ceasefire Control which had recorded violations and reported terrorist movement in the south of Syria.

He highlighted that bilateral relations between Jordan and Russia are strengthening and developing in various areas including regional, economic and defence issues, therefore the two countries can have frank discussions and collaborate in respect to the Syrian crisis; also referring to Putin’s praise of the bilateral relations.

In response to a question regarding Russian officials’ statements on the convoys in Syria, the ambassador asserted that the convoys sent humanitarian aid under UN Security Council resolution 2615.

Finally, Al Kayed said that Jordan will always work to reach a political solution to the situation in Syria and was committed to be at the forefront in fighting terrorism and maintaining national security.
