The Ministry of Health shut down 197 healthcare and medical facilities in 2017 for violating several clauses of the law. A further 77 facilities were issued an official warning, 36 of whom were referred to the Attorney General, according to Nasser Al Khashman, Director of the Supervision Department at the Ministry of Health.

Al Khashman told Roya that of those facilities, 138 were hospitals, GP clinics, emergency rooms and dental clinics, 37 were medical laboratories, one skin-care centre, 15 optical centres, and three physiotherapy centres.

The facilities were either shut down or issued a warning for operating without a permit or a medical license, and for not complying with the Ministry’s laws.

It is highly recommended that those seeking treatment at any healthcare facility, especially if their request is of a cosmetic nature, investigate it beforehand.
