The Jordanian government demanded on Friday that Israeli authorities halt provocative actions around Al Aqsa mosque and respect Jordan’s custodianship over the holy sites in East Jerusalem, as stipulated in the peace treaty between the two countries.

In a statement, State Minister for Media Affairs, Mohammad Momani, condemned the constant violations in Jerusalem, especially Israeli settlers’ invasion of Al-Aqsa mosque yards under the protection of Israeli soldiers.

Momani also expressed the government’s concern that the Jewish holidays had become a pretext for Israelis to increase the tension in Jerusalem and denounced the disgraceful actions taken by extremist groups which target Muslims during prayer.

He also asserted that disrespecting the holy sites was in clear violation of international law which protects houses of worship for all religions.
