US President Donald Trump told his supporters at an Ohio event on Thursday, that the US will be pulling out of Syria “very soon,” CNN reported.

Trump added that it’s time for others to take care of Syria, just hours after the Pentagon stressed the importance of its troops remaining in the war-torn country.

Trump’s statement is contradictory to the military’s assessment - which finds it currently unsuitable to withdraw from Syria. In response to Trump’s comments, a US defense official said that the President’s remarks remain unclear.

While the official remarked on the challenges the US is facing in Syria, he noted that they still need to decide on the future of Syrian President Bashar Al Assad, along with Russia’s presence in the country.

Earlier today, the US army announced the death of two soldiers and the injury of five others in Syria.
