Hundreds of Palestinian mourners in the West Bank attended on Thursday the funeral of Yaseen Al-Saradeeh, a man killed by the Israeli army during his arrest earlier in February.

Saradeeh’s body was released on Thursday morning after being withheld by the Israeli army for more than five weeks.

His family had confirmed that their son was beaten in their house before he was taken away and asserted he had been in good health before his arrest.

Eyewitnesses confirmed he had been heavily beaten during the arrest and a ninety-second video was released showing the Israeli army heavily beating the 33-year-old Palestinian man.

In the video, several soldiers were seen kicking and beating Saradeeh with rifles, while he laid motionless on the ground.

Israeli authorities had informed the man’s family of his death shortly after he was arrested and initially attributed his death to the inhalation of tear gas fired by soldiers.

According to the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission an autopsy ran by Palestinian pathologist Rayyan al-Ali, whose expertise was approved by Israel, indicated that Saradeeh had died due to internal bleeding caused by a live bullet fired at a point-blank range into his lower abdomen, reported Wafa news agency.
