One person has died and four others were injured in an explosion in the Roushdy neighbourhood in Alexandria on Saturday, Al Arabiya reported.

All five casualties are believed to be police officers.

Local witnesses said that the bombing took place near the Tolip Hotel, which is affiliated with the Egyptian army.

Aftermath pictures taken by locals showed the burning remains of the vehicle that was allegedly targeted by the attackers.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, nor did the authorities hold anyone accountable for the explosion.

The explosion took place just two days before the Presidential Egyptian election, which will be held between 26-28 March.
