Six pharmacies in Amman, Zarqa and Irbid lost their licenses this week, after it came to the Jordan Pharmacists Association’s (JPhA) attention that their real owners were not actually pharmacists, reported Al Ghad newspaper.

If you’re not a qualified pharmacist, Jordanian law stipulates that you can’t legally own a pharmacy in the kingdom, as that would go against the Food and Drug Act.

The insurance companies contracted with those pharmacies have been given until 21 March to manage their contracts, in accordance with the JPhA’s rules and regulations.

Salah Qandil, JPhA Secretary, said that should the insurance companies fail to comply with the regulations, the pharmacies will not be allowed to approve and use the drug prescriptions issued by their insurers.

Meanwhile, the JPhA has begun to electronically archive around one million papers that hold information about their 21,000 members.
