A fourteen-year-old boy committed suicide on Saturday in his family house in the Mafraq area, north Jordan.

The Public Security Department (PSD) is carrying out an investigation to determine the reasons behind the suicide and informed Roya that the boy has died through hanging.

Suicide rates in Jordan have been on the rise recently, while the most common methods were found to be suicide by gunfire, burning, intoxication, jumping off heights, hanging and pills.

Last October the PSD and their Family Protection Department launched a suicide hotline that also takes calls through 911 and connects distressed callers with a specialised psychiatrist, a forensic doctor and the closest police station.
