Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited on Saturday the occupied West Bank for talks with the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas as a part of his Middle East tour; the visit makes Modi the first Indian prime minister to visit Palestine.

The visit comes weeks after Modi hosted the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu; which is seen as an Indian attempt to balance its lately strengthening ties with the Jewish state.

Modi flew from Jordan to Abbas office in Ramallah, according to AFP.

The Indian and the Palestinian officials will have talks regarding technology, health, and tourism before Modi returns to Jordan.

India has backed the Palestinian nationhood. Besides, Modi has announced his support for the two states solution as a peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

India's refusal to support American step to recognise Jerusalem as an Israeli capital disappointed Israel but was consistent with its support for the Palestinians.
