Hamas leader Ismael Haneyya left the Gaza Strip on Friday to Egypt for talks after Egypt opened its terminal for couple of days.

Hamas, which runs Gaza since 2007, said in a statement that Haneyya left to Egypt to discuss Gaza’s economic crisis "that put Gaza on the edge of the abyss."

Talks will also cover difficulties facing the Palestinian reconciliation with the Fatah rival party in the West Bank, the statement added.

Egypt closed its Rafah border in front of thousands of Palestinians wishing to leave Gaza after allowing Haneyya out, and after it began a military assault against “terrorists” in Sinai.

Gaza residents were angered that Egypt always allows Hamas officials out while banning them from travelling.

Egypt has kept Rafah mostly closed since Hamas took over Gaza in 2007.
