US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is scheduled to visit Jordan between February 11-16, as part of a regional tour that will include Turkey, Lebanon, Egypt and Kuwait.

Tillerson will hold talks with top Jordanian officials to discuss key topics including the crisis in Syria and Jordan’s support for Middle East peace, according to a statement released by the US Embassy.

“[He] will underscore the enduring strength of the US-Jordan relationship, engage with the Jordanian leadership on the conclusion of a new memorandum of understanding on bilateral assistance, and discuss key regional issues such as the ongoing crisis in Syria and Jordan’s support for Middle East peace,” the statement reads.

Earlier in January 2018, the Jordanian Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Ayman Safadi, held a meeting with his US counterpart in Washington. They discussed Amman-Washington bilateral ties and ways to bolster them in various fields.

The Palestinian cause and Jerusalem were the major issues discussed by both parties, in addition to developments pertaining to funding the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) and the latest developments related to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
