The Job Creation and Unemployment Control Authority in Saudi Arabia has launched a campaign to reduce the number of foreign workers employed within the private sector in the Kingdom, with the aim of encouraging Saudi nationals to apply for certain positions.

A decision was made by the Ministry of Labour on Monday to limit these 12 positions to Saudi nationals only:

1. Watch stores.
2. Eyewear stores.
3. Medical equipment stores.
4. Electronics stores.
5. Car parts stores.
6. Building materials stores.
7. Carpet stores.
8. Car and motorcycle showrooms.
9. Home and office furniture stores.
10. Men, women and baby clothes stores.
11. Houseware stores.
12. Sweet and dessert stores.

The Ministry’s decision will come into effect at the beginning of the new Hijri year, according to the Islamic calendar.

In 2017, the number of jobs advertised in Saudi Arabia rose 21% between, with “significant year-on-year increases for sales, marketing and legal positions,” according to a new report from Robert Walters Middle East.
