The Supreme Court sentenced a man 11 years in prison with hard labour, over his attempt to rape his 19-year-old sister.

The man who is in his 30s, attempted to rape his sister before she fled to file a lawsuit against him.

The sentence was announced during an early court hearing on Sunday, and it was attended by the Head of the session , Ibrahim Bawaried, the two judges, Ramzi Nawayseh and Lafi Abu Tayeh and the General Prosecutor, Salah Taleb.

The convict, who has a criminal record of previous rape attempts, was trying to attack his sister after pushing her to the ground, when she started to cry for help before being able to flee.

In the court, the convict was proved to have a criminal record of previous rape attempts, when he was sentenced five years hard labour, before being released and attempt raping his sister.

According to Article 292 of the Jordanian Penal Code, any person who has forced sexual intercourse with a female, other than his wife, shall be sentenced to at least five (5) years of temporary hard labour.

The law also confirmed that the sentence shall not be less than seven (7) years if the victim is less than fifteen (15) years of age.
