King Abdullah issued an order on Wednesday to halt taxes on drugs, according to Petra News Agency.

On his part, Prime Minister, Hani al-Mulqi, said that based on royal orders no additional taxes will be imposed on drugs.

The resolution came as King Abdullah asked the government not to add financial burdens on patients and their families, and to take the situation of the poor into consideration.

Earlier this month, the Cabinet announced the main features of the 2018 economic measures, which included additional taxes on drugs.

As wave of anger and frustration spread among Jordanians, representatives of the pharmaceutical industry in Jordan expressed the impossibility of imposing such decision in a short time, and called on government to suspend it.
