A Palestinian family in Gaza has ‘executed’ on Friday one of its own members for collaborating with the Israeli occupation, and passing on information that led to the assassination of three senior Hamas fighters, Palestinians sources said.
Hamas, which runs the coastal enclave since 2007, held Ahmed Barhoum for a couple of months before handing him over to his Hamas affiliated family, according to the AFP.
Barhoum was shot dead by a family member in the southern Rafah city shortly after the handover, according to eyewitnesses.
Family members of the three fighters who were killed in an Israeli airstrike in 2014 attended the shooting, one of the three killed was a cousin of the alleged collaborator.
"We carried out the punishment against our son Ahmad Said Barhoum after having been assured without a shadow of a doubt that he was implicated in the assassination" of the fighters, the family said in a statement.
Hamas also welcomed what it called "the execution of this criminal".
Hamas is known for public executions for alleged collaborators. Three alleged collaborators were executed in a public square earlier in May for assisting Israel is assassinating senior Hamas fighter. Hamas even sent out invitations to the execution.
