His Majesty King Abdullah II made a one-day trip to Cyprus on Tuesday, where he met with the President of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, Cypriot Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

The three leaders discussed the relationship between Jordan and Cyprus, and Jordan and Greece, in addition to the latest developments in the region.

The Israeli-Palestinian case and Jerusalem, and US President Donald Trump’s recognition of it as Israel’s capital, were also discussed in the meeting.

King Abdullah II discusses Jerusalem, terrorism and peace during the trip.

In a joint press statement, King Abdullah stressed the importance of this meeting as a step towards developing the relationship between Jordan, Cyprus and Greece.

In the statement, His Majesty expressed his happiness at attending this meeting in Cyprus, adding that “today was the the launch of what I hope will develop into a fruitful tripartite partnership.”

The Jordanian monarch added that “peace can’t be achieved without reaching a permanent solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” pointing out that Jerusalem is “key” to achieving that.

“A comprehensive peace agreement should be reached to implement the Two-State solution, with East Jerusalem as independent Palestine’s capital,” King Abdullah said.

King Abdullah stressed that no unilateral decision about Jerusalem will change its status or history.

Hi Majesty also talked about Jordan, Greece and Cyprus’ commitment to fighting terrorism and extremism, and thanked Cyprus for its great efforts in this regard.
