The Jordanian total imports of cosmetics for the year 2017 were amounted to around 340 million JDs, according to Dr. Suhailah Batarseh from the Jordanian Food and Drug Administration.

The directorate dealt with 20,899 bills for medical devices and 798 bills for cosmetics and beauty products, pointing out that the directorate is responsible of importing medical devices to the country, including sterilizers, disinfectants and pharmaceutical cosmetics.

Batarseh confirmed that there were 4520 beauty products were registered during 2017.

When compared to 2016's numbers, the Kingdom registered 145.09 million JDs, an increase by 13.4% comparing to 2015.

However, imports of cosmetics in 2016 had registered the highest in five years.

In 2017, the total value of imports stood at JD11.9 billion during the first 9 months of 2017, rising by 5.6% compared with 2016.

On the other hand, the value of exports reached 4.351 billion JDs dropping by 2.7%, and the value of national exports increased slightly by 0.4% compared with last year due to the rise in exports of clothes, raw potash and fertilisers.

According to recently-released reports, the Kingdom’s trade deficit during the first 10 months of 2017 rose by 11% comparing to the previous year, according to the Department of Statistics.
