The meeting of the six-member Arab Ministerial Committee on Jerusalem began in Amman, while the Jordanian Foreign Ministry postponed the press conference due to an urgent reason.

The press conference was due to be held at 12:30 pm but the Foreign Ministry announced it would be postponed until 2:30.

This meeting is the first for the six-party ministerial committee formed pursuant to resolution 8221 issued by the emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers on 9 December to assess the situation and determine the next steps to defend the status of Jerusalem.

The foreign ministers of Jordan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, the UAE, and Egypt, as well as the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, will attend the meeting to discuss the repercussions of the American decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the transfer of the US Embassy to Jerusalem.

It also aims to coordinate Arab efforts and moves internationally in order to preserve the historical and legal status of Jerusalem as one of the final status issues that will be determined through negotiations between the parties concerned, and reject any resolutions that violate the international legitimacy which will affect the future of the peace process and the comprehensive and just settlement of the Palestinian conflict..
