Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Guatemala’s decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem is “shameful” and illegal.

The ministry said in a press release that this shameful and illegal decision is provoking the feelings of Muslims and Christians, especially those that voted against any change to the status of occupied Jerusalem, or moving embassies there.

Earlier on Thursday, the United Nations general assembly has voted by majority to reject Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as an Israeli capital. Guatemala was one of the nine delegations that voted against the draft.

On the sixth of December, U.S. President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as an Israeli capital, and announced his intention to move the American embassy there.

Israeli Prime Minister Binjamin Netanyahu welcomed the step,and called upon other countries to follow the same step. However many countries opposed this step ,including Jordan, Guatemala was the first country to follow it.
